Fuerteventura is an excellent, year-round, destination for surfing, with many spots that work best at different times of the year. Changes in swell and wind conditions has an impact on which coast is working best. On the right day, with perfect conditions, Fuerteventura can offer world class waves for advanced surfers. Fuerteventura also has its fair share of reliable spots, allowing surfers to get in the water whatever the conditions. Luckily, Fuerteventura is a relatively small island, meaning no spot is too longer trek away.
Fuerteventura offers spots for beginners up to advanced, allowing you to move up to more advanced spots as you gain more confidence.
The North
The north shore includes all the breaks from the north of Corralejo to the north of El Cotillo. It is mainly made up of reefbreaks, and is generally more for the intermediate to advanced surfers. The majority of the spots need a good off-shore wind from the south and East to really pump, therefore the north shore tends to work best from September through to March.
The East
The east generally works best in the summer months when the wind is predominantly from the north. These spots are generally more beach breaks and are often used by surf schools.
The West
The spots at the west of Fuerteventura change dramatically throughout the year. During the summer months spots are generally quite small, creating a good environment for beginners. However in the winter months, large swells can hit from the north atlantic, creating large, barrelling waves.
